Synopsis
- This is one of the super classic, extensor lessons, where you lie prone, and lift the head, arms and legs in variations.
Lesson Outline
- Prone
- Knee bent out to side, head in same direction, resting on hands. Lift the head with the help of the upper hand. Also with the face turned to the other side. Repeat all actions on the other side.
- Same position, lift the entire lower leg off the floor. Also with the head turned to the other side
- Lift one straight leg from the floor. Also the head. Also with the head turned in the other direction.
- Lift both legs from the floor. Also the head.
- Retest the orginal head lifting movements, facing one and the other way.

- I have added tags: lifting head; head resting on hand;prone. (BenP)
- I have compared this lesson to the earlier AY lessons AY2 and AY7. My conclusion is that there is all manner of variations available to a teacher teaching this type of lesson. Also, that the extension lessons in prone are very effective for modifying the tonus of the back muscles through action rather than inaction (inhibition) (by which I mean, reciprocal inhibition of the extensors occurs in supine flexion lessons).
