Synopsis
- The “hopping” (small jumping) in this lesson is exclusively a test movement. Standing and “flopping” or “failing” the knees, with weight equal at first, then a lot of the lesson has weight mostly on one or other leg (other foot stays lightly on the ground, flat).
Lesson Outline
- Reference movement: Hop (small jump) on both feet
- Stand and “flop” or “fail suddenly” in the knees, first with weight equally on feet, then mostly on one or other foot (the other foot stays lightly on the ground, flat).
- Pay attention not to do anything deliberate with the breathing.
- Allow the head to go backward when you flop the knees forward, as a strategy to learn to stop doing it.
- As you flop the knees, don’t flop anything else but allow the pelvis at the hip joints to go backwards in space.
- Lift the forefoot of the leg that the weight is on.
- Do small clock circles with each forefoot separately and at the same time, symmetrically.
- Return to flopping/failing the knees forward.
- Reference movement: Hop (small jump) on both feet, then on each foot separately
Focus of the teaching
- Reducing interference of the breathing, head and torso in order to arrange the pelvis, hip joints and knees more efficiently for propulsion, with particular attention to taking the hip joint area backward.
