Synopsis

Lesson Outline
-
(sitting on the front edge of a chair). Feet comfortably apart, hands on the knees. Notice your sitting posture, the organization of the spine, and the ease of side bending.
1–1a Left hip-initiated side bending. Lift the left hip joint to bend the whole body to the right as one unit, then repeat with the left arm extended overhead.
2–2a Right hip-initiated side bending. Lift the right hip joint to bend the whole body to the left, then repeat with the right arm extended overhead.
3–3c Differentiating the middle of the spine. Move the middle of the chest and lower back to the right while allowing the head to counterbalance to the left. Add the left hip, then differentiate movements of the hip and the middle of the spine before comparing the sensations.
4–4b Opposite differentiation. Move the middle of the spine to the left, add the right hip, then alternate movements of the hip and lower back while keeping the upper body quiet.
4c–4f Right shoulder differentiation. Move the right shoulder to the right with the head moving left, explore the shoulder high, low, and middle positions, then integrate these variations with quicker, lighter movements before revisiting the original left hip side bend.
5–5c Left shoulder differentiation. Repeat the same exploration with the left shoulder moving left, varying shoulder height, lowering the shoulder, and integrating all three directions with easy movements.
6–6i Right shoulder with differentiated head turning. Move the right shoulder right while turning the head and eyes left. Differentiate leading the turn with the chin, nose, forehead, and left ear; explore shoulder forward/back while the head remains turned; add eye movements up/down and side-to-side before integrating the whole pattern.
7–7b Return to left hip side bending. Repeat the original movement with improved spinal organization, then add lifting the left shoulder toward the left ear and gradually increase the ease and speed.
8–8h Left shoulder with differentiated head turning. Move the left shoulder forward and left while turning the head to the right. Differentiate the movement through the chin, nose, forehead, and ear, add eye movements vertically and horizontally, then integrate the whole movement.
9–9e Integrating pelvis, arms, and head. Extend both arms at shoulder height. Alternate lifting each hip while keeping the arms level, coordinate head tilting with the pelvis, then reverse the relationship, allow spontaneous organization, add head turning, and finish with free side-to-side movement.
10 Final integration. Repeat the original whole-body side bending from the beginning and compare the quality, ease, and range of movement.
Final scan (standing and walking). Stand up, walk around, and notice changes in posture, spinal organization, balance, and overall ease of movement compared to the beginning of the lesson.
