- Reel 33, Track 3, Lesson 3
- Duration: 44 minutes
Synopsis
- Prone and some supine
- Crawling movements in a variety of prone positions
Lesson Outline
- Crawling movements of a single leg in prone position with one arm long, down , alongside the body and the other above the head, on the floor
- Crawling movement of a single leg with same side back of hand making circles on the floor while the other hand is standing
- Crawling movements of one leg with both hands standing
- Crawling movement of one leg with same side hand making circles opposite direction, opposite side hand standing
- Crawl with same side elbow and leg together.
- Repeat all of above to the opposite side
- Crawling movement of alternating legs in prone on forearms and elbow position
- Crawling movement of alternating legs in both hands standing position
- Crawling movements of alternating legs in prone, one arm up, above head, elbow on the floor with the other arm down, alongside the body, long with head turned toward the down, long arm
- Same as above line to other side
- Crawling movements of alternating legs in alternating hands standing/elbows up vs elbows and forearms on the floor, above the head
- On the back, knees bent and lifted, elbows bent and pointed at knees: bring the elbows towards the knees but take the knees away from the elbows and straighten the legs; on the return as you bring the knees closer to the elbows, take the elbows away and straighten the arms
- Do the line above but on the stomach
- Do the same again on the back
Focus of the teaching
- Cues for the back and chest during crawling movements of the leg, for sense of length between the two sides of the spine
- Cues to encourage the intention of crawling, to create a forward movement
- Coordinating same side arm and leg movement and the necessary head movement when quickly alternating sides
- Comparing types of crawling at the end (?)

- The first 6 instructions follow a pattern of coordinating same side flexion movements of the upper and lower body to create a frontal plane alternating side form of locomotion similar to a fish. However, the last instruction seems to call back to a previous lesson ( sorry I did not review the other 6 lessons related) where you perform both arm followed by both leg forward motions ( a sagittal plane movement) which seems more related to a gallop perhaps, or that of an inch worm. Still crawling but a different kind. Welcome to feedback on this reference and or connection to the rest of the lesson – Alex Schaefer, MPT, FP
