Synopsis
- In supine, the midline is clarified and felt using imagination, then the limbs and head are lifted to it in various configurations, ending the lesson in lying-to-sit.
Lesson Outline
- Supine, establish an imaginary clear plane all through the sagittal plane (by bouncing an imaginary ball). [Did you know that sagittal derives from the Latin “sagitta”, meaning “arrow” in English?]
- An imaginary point or ring is then placed directly above the navel 1-2m (3-7.5ft) towards the ceiling, and imaginary strings attached through it to the big toes, thumbs and occiput. The strings are “pulled” so those parts rise towards the point (separately & together). The legs and head see-saw at a right angle.
- One side of the body is “painted” crossways, then lengthways. Return to the lifting movements.
- “Paint” the other side and return to the movements.
- “Wash” the plane with hands and feet together, then rock like this to sitting, paying close attention to when the feet and hands move to and away from each other (aim to reduce/eliminate it).
Focus of the teaching
- Clarity of instruction (I edited it heavily, so it flowed better).
