Synopsis
- AY 312 develops a fluid transition from side-lying to standing through a spiral movement of the pelvis with minimal hand support. The lesson progresses from simple knee movements to complex whole-body coordination, emphasizing continuous movement and efficient weight distribution.
Lesson Outline
- Section 1: In supine with knees bent, hold each knee with the corresponding hand. Push knees right and left with knees spread, allowing head to hang back. Variations include extending heels and alternating sides while lifting head with eyes following the pushing leg.
- Sections 2-3: On right side, hold left knee with left hand. Push left leg forward to stand knee in front of right lower leg. Allow head to hang then lift. Progress to standing left foot on floor in middle of right lower leg when coming to sit.
- Section 4-5: From side-lying right, hold left knee and place right hand on floor. Push with left foot to stand it in front of right lower leg, continue moving pelvis to come up onto right knee and toes until standing. Repeat on left side.
- Sections 6-7: From side-lying, develop a continuous spiral movement of the pelvis from floor to standing without pushing with the hand. The pelvis moves in a spiral path from lying to standing with knees almost straight. Practice on both sides.
- Sections 8-9: From side-lying right, with right knee bent and heel near buttocks, lift both legs in air to swing to sitting, then continue pelvis movement to standing. Progress through variations including lifting one leg, adding arm movements, and rolling down to return to standing in same swing.
Focus of the teaching
- Throughout the lesson, Moshe emphasizes how weight placement dramatically affects movement efficiency. He explains that “if you place a hand of one hundred kilos behind the ear, it is impossible to get up at all. If you place a hand of one kilo in front, it will bring you up even before you want to.” The lesson focuses on achieving continuous movement without stopping, particularly in the spiral path of the pelvis from floor to standing.
