- Reel 20, Track 2, Lesson 4
Synopsis
- Lying on the back, occasionally sitting, flexing the toes of the left foot, whilst dorsiflexing the foot.
- This lesson is unilateral and works on the left side only.
- The lesson focuses on differentiated movement of the toes and the ankle – the toes flex under whilst the ankle flexes upwards. There is (only) a little non-differentiated movement of the foot with the toes.
Lesson Outline
- Stand, test the flexing of the left ankle.
- Lie, flex the left toes
- Use the right hand to flex the left toes whilst flexing the ankle, with the left foot in various configurations (on the right knee; behind the right ankle; lying to the left, on its medial side).
- Bringing the sole of the foot to face the ceiling, permit the weight of the fore foot to ‘pull’ the foot towards the ground, under the effect of gravity.
- Again with the sole toward the ceiling, circle the foot – a non-differentiated movement of the foot.
- Sit, manipulate the toes of the left foot and flex the ankle.
- Sit, left foot on right knee, manipulate the toes of the left foot and flex the ankle.
- Lie, circle the left foot.
Focus of the teaching
- Unilateral working.
- Differentiation (of toes and ankle).
- Improving the quality of movement of ‘worse’ parts to be closer to the quality of the best.
